Privacy
Love Will Tear Us Apart is built so that the person you connect with only ever learns how far apart you are, never where you are. This page says exactly what the app keeps, and why.
What we keep
- Your account. The anonymous identifier Sign in with Apple gives us, and your first name if you choose to share it.
- Your little person. Your character, name, vibe, signature move and catchphrase, so your person's app can show you.
- Your people. Who you're connected to, and the label you give each one (Partner, Friend, Family or Rival). Your label is yours: the other person never sees it.
- Invites you send. The name you typed for them and the label you picked, kept only while the invite waits. Once it's opened, cancelled or replaced, the name is gone.
- Your latest position, only. Taken when you tug, when you open the app while connected, and while you're on your way. Each new position replaces the last; we keep no history. Your person can never see it.
- Distances and tugs. When one of you tugs the string, we store the distance between you and the time. Distances are rounded, and while you're on your way we keep only the latest one, deleted when the trip ends.
- Our song. The YouTube video you chose and its start time. When you search for a song, your search words go to YouTube through our server; we don't keep them.
- A push notification token, so tugs reach your phone.
- The unlock. If you buy More people, Apple's signed record of that purchase, so the unlock stays with your account. We never see your payment details.
What we never do
- Show your location to anyone, or put you on a map.
- Track you in the background, except during an On my way trip that you start yourself, with the iPhone location indicator showing.
- Sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
Ending things
Either of you can disconnect at any time: tap their name on their page (with one person, it's in Settings too). From then on no distance is worked out or shown, and your tugs with that person are deleted. Delete account, in Settings, removes everything we keep about you and revokes the app's Sign in with Apple.
Who helps us run it
- Supabase hosts the database and server functions.
- Apple provides sign-in, delivers push notifications and handles the purchase.
- YouTube plays your song when you're together again; YouTube's own terms and privacy policy apply to that player.
